College graduations are just around the corner and I am heading back to LA next week to celebrate my sister’s! I can’t believe it has already been a year since I graduated and I can’t wait to be back with my immediate family to honour my sister and toast to all her accomplishments! Graduating from University is a big deal and it is an achievement that deserves to be commemorated. Buying gifts for graduates is pretty standard, but it can be a little difficult to figure out what to purchase for them. I think that regardless of whether it is your sister, your girlfriend, your girlfriend’s sister, your cousin, your best friend (etc), it is lovely to gift them something that will be useful but also a little more luxurious than they may buy for themselves. They have worked hard for four years! And if that isn’t reason enough to get a little bit spoiled, then I don’t know what is.
So, to help you out, I scoured the internet for some reasonably-priced gifts that I think would be perfect for gifting the highly-educated women in your life. (Champagne is also always a solid plan!)
Kate Spade is always my go-to for girly gifts. I love her small accessories, stationary and homeware items, and I think that they are perfect for graduation gifts as they are fun yet grown-up. She always manages to strike a balance between professional and stylish like in this lovely floral laptop bag, this map silk scarf, and this (very on-trend) pom-pom straw bag that reminds the grad she is ‘going places’.
A gorgeous accessory is always a lovely gift because it means that the recipient will think about you every-time she uses it! Any working gal would love this Madewell leather tote to take her from day-to-night, or this beautiful camera bag for her future explorations. These Baublebar drop earrings are absolutely gorgeous and come in a range of colours, and at $35 this MantraBand bracelet with the phrase “she believed she could, so she did” is a great budget option. This Cluse watch is stunning and something a newly professional woman would love!
Beauty products are another great thing to gift, as often times women refrain from splurging on these items themselves. This Nars eyeshadow palette is filled with stunning, high-pigmented colours that are guaranteed to make her shine. Everyone loves a relaxing bath and this Farmaesthetics pink petal roses solar salt is perfect for a detoxifying mineral soak. Aesop is a highly-loved brand and this little jet set travel kit has four of their most popular products to keep her clean and smelling-good when she is on the go. The Clarisonic Mia 2 cleansing system is a slight splurge-buy that would ensure she puts her best face forward after grad! For fragrance, I recommend Derek Lam’s “Drunk on Youth” for a floral, yet sophisticated scent.
Personally, a Kindle is something I think everyone should have. Most people want to read more, and a Kindle ensures you can always have a book with you on the go. Chrissy Teigen’s cookbook will also be appreciated, as will this book (which is actually on pre-order until August) that suggests 52 things to do on your lunch-break (now she will have a job and all that!). If she is working from home, a coffee-maker is probably high up on her list of “needs”. In fact, it was the number one thing that I wanted when I graduated and this one looks wonderful. If she is more of a tea-kinda-lady, this Kate Spade tea-pot will make the most darling addition to her kitchen.
Other little gifts that I think any grad would love to receive are Sugarfina’s champagne bears (so ridiculous, so yummy), a beautiful portable battery so she never has to stress about an un-charged phone (for work calls, not Instagram), and the cutest Koala mug that says “so koalafied”. This class of 2017 tassel holder frame is also a really thoughtful gift that will ensure the tassel representing her hard work is always kept safe – I wish I had one of these!
I hope this has given you some ideas for what to get the studious and brilliant women in your lives! Let me know what you decide to get them!
