All Over The Denim
If there is one material I’ve fully embraced with open arms this year, it’s denim. After years of avoiding the fabric like the plague, this year I have finally wisened up to what the rest of the world has known for decades. Denim is cool, denim is easy, denim can be worn again and again and in a multitude of different ways. Denim is always there for you, no matter what time of day, where in the world you are, or what you are going to be doing.
It all started with these black denim jeans I got last year, followed by these high-waisted denim shorts, then I pulled out these light blue denim jeans and vintage flared Tommy Hilfiger jeans while in Europe and Mexico City last summer. My denim jean collection grew to include high-waisted flares, sparkly boyfriend jeans, Mom jeans with pearls all over them, and just regular old blue jeans.
But it has been over the past couple of months that my love for denim has expanded past merely two-legged items for my lower half. I am now the very loving owner of a Tanique Coburn denim jacket with exaggerated sleeves, a denim crop-top, and vintage denim dungarees, all of which I can’t wait to mix and match with other pieces in my spring wardrobe.
And then there is this tie-waist denim midi skirt, featuring a frayed hem, two oversized pockets, and just enough of a slit up the front to take it from dowdy to unexpectedly sexy. I love little details like that. The denim hugs my curves nicely and shows just a slither of leg as I strut down the street and (crazily) it was £5 in the Primark sale.
In addition to the denim skirt, my whole outfit kind of reads like a who’s who on the British high street. With a beautifully embroidered pink River Island shirt, mesh Mango sandals (last seen here), a Forever 21 silver metallic faux leather jacket (last seen here & here), Zara earrings, and a Parfois cross bag (last seen here). All essential wardrobe styles, made a little more special with their unusual colours and details.
Other denim pieces on my wish-list include a patchwork denim mini skirt, a wrap denim skirt, mid-rise boyfriend jeans with a frayed hem, this denim skirt with a funky feather design, a very chic midi dress, an embroidered pinafore dress, an eyelet denim shirt, a little twist cami top, and a wide-cuffed denim shirt to go with my denim jacket!
Of coursed denim shorts are always a staple in the summer. This year I want to take a stab at styling yellow gingham Mom ones, a sequin boyfriend style, some distressed grommet denim (also really love these in the boyfriend jean style), a cut-out style, and a classic day-to-day pair. Also, how great would these be for the 4th of July?? *Not even a citizen but inserts into online shopping cart**
