Marc Jacobs Dress & Metallic Asics
Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic weekend! Over the past couple of days, the weather in Cleveland has been absolutely amazing and I have been loving the opportunity to strut around in some of my lighter dresses. When I found this beautiful 100% silk Marc by Marc Jacobs dress in my favourite Goodwill in NYC, I screamed with delight because it was in absolutely perfect condition (as were all the other pieces I acquired which are seen in this haul). With its navy blue patterned silk, slightly flared sleeves, and a waist-tie to accentuate —wait for it— my waist, the dress on its own is simple yet striking.
A dress like this can be dressed up and dressed down in a variety of different ways. During the two times that I wore it last week, I came to the realization that it is the perfect base — one that can shimmy and shake with ruffled socks and patent mary-jane heels, or can stroll and ponder with coloured tights and beaten-up combat boots. One that can be layered with a colourful turtleneck underneath or a sleek blazer over the top á la The Row. It could be a work dress, a party dress, a family dinner dress, an “I just woke up and threw this old thing on” dress. You get the point.
For Sunday brunch and a walk through nature (as depicted here through the brilliant lens of my Mum), I teamed this jack-of-all-trades dress with a pair of Metallic Asics GEL-Lyte III that I surprisingly found in Burlington Coat Factory on Saturday evening for $14.99. I have no idea why the discount store had two pairs in there (one of them being in my size) and also had them on red sticker clearance; but, hey, I am not going to complain because look at me standing/sitting on rocks and things in them. Their metallic sheen and extra gel heels gave me the power! In all honesty, I have never owned such a comfortable pair of shoes and the purchase of these brings my current sneaker count up to 3! A miracle if I have ever heard of one.
I capped it all off with a velvet nautical cap from Zara and went on my merry way!
